Skaven are notorious for running away in screaming panic, but that isn't always the case. Sometimes they run away very sensibly. Other times, they don't run away at all! Stormvermin bodyguards are usually the sort that don't (always) run away, and (usually) when they do it's a very sensible decision. Or they've been paid to abandon their leader...
Anyway, today I finished the Battle Standard Bearer, who is supposed to be a Chieftan of a Clan, but I think this rat is the slightly (very) put-upon apprentice of the Grey Seer who has, among other duties, the honour of carrying the Grey Seer's personal standard, which is marked with the emblem of the Order of the Grey Seers, and some Queekish denoting the specific Seer in question, Itt-Skritt.

Unlike either the Stormvermin or the Grey Seer, this apprentice isn't wearing anything other than armour, because if push comes to shove you run faster |

The back view shows quite clearly how the hand weapon he's carrying protrudes, irritatingly, in such a way as to interfere with the movement tray. Ah well |
On top of that, I got the Ratling Gun Team done too, which means the whole regiment of Stormvermin, its accompanying weapons team, and attached characters are now done. I do still need another five minis to bring up to full strength but in the mean time they're finished:

The business end of the ratling gun - six paw-cranked barrels of doom! |

Warpstone globes at the bottom of the feed hopper provide power? Maybe? Who knows with the strange technomancy of Clan Skryre |

With the rune of the Horned Rat on the ammunition hopper, surely this device will never fail! |
And so, with Battle Standard Bearer and Ratling Gun Team complete, the only thing left is to show the whole regiment in its glory:

I painted the Grey Seer, Itt-Skritt, over a decade ago - in fact I talked about it in one of my early blog posts - but he fits in perfectly with the much newer stuff, despite the significant change in style and approach to much of the way I paint nowadays. The whole unit looks really formidable, even lacking its fourth rank. I'm very pleased with them honestly |
Now I've reached a point where the Skaven that I have that are undercoated aren't actually part of the army list - a group of 10 plastic clanrats from the 1980s, another Grey Seer model, and some Plague Censer Bearers - while the rest, Clanrats mostly, are bare plastic. So I have a choice - do I sit and undercoat a bunch by hand, or work on minis that aren't, strictly speaking, part of the army (yet). Much to ponder.
