Oi! You're Nicked, Me Old Son!

In the shattered ruins of Mordheim, the City Watch still patrols... mostly to line their own pockets, but that's not that different to what they did before the disaster. They are, after all, coppers. And not your Ankh-Morpokh Sir Sam Vimes coppers, no, these are your everyday corrupt violent illiterate official street gang cops. But they're still - or so they'll claim anyway - the law, old chum:

I finished these two today - a Youngblood with spear, and Marksman with crossbow

Most Mordheim henchmen are badly equipped; this Marksman has a sword and a crossbow

In comparison though the Youngblood is very well equipped: light armour, helmet, spear, and shield!

The silver raven on the shield means the bearer is a Corporal in the City Watch

After finishing up the last two basic members of the warband, I got one of the two Ogres I've collected for Mordheim - this one is a spare one from the box I got last year for my Warhammer Empire mercenary Ogre units - and painted him up as a somewhat larger member of the City Watch:

"Oi! You!" they didn't have official truncheons big enough so Watchman Ernst uses a piece of timber

Loot bag? No, it's for collecting evidence

He has a sword (well, cleaver, really) but doesn't use it that often

I didn't have any of the lighter yellow I used on the rest of the warband so his uniform is slightly different - but it doesn't matter

With these three done, the whole City Watch is now complete:

The City Watch! L-R: spear-armed foot patrols led by the two Corporals and a Sergeant, sword-armed response group led by the Watch Captain and supported by Ernie the Ogre; crossbowmen led by a Sergeant with a matchlock handgun

The Heroes: Sergeant with handgun; Sergeant with halberd, light armour, helmet, and shield; Captain with heavy armour, helmet, shield, sword, and club; Youngbloods (Corporals) with light armour, helmets, shields, and spears

I really like the way the Captain's shield turned out - especially given I did him when I was a teenager

The handgun-armed Sergeant has "OM" for Ostermark on his powder box, and you can see the truncheon of office hanging off the Captain's belt too

These five models alone take up a sizeable chunk of the 500GC that a starting warband costs

Henchmen: Marksmen with crossbows and swords

The Marksman with the long brown coat was originally one of the Champions (Sergeants), but I replaced him with the handgunner miniature

The scabbards are all slightly different, because I painted them all at different times!

The way the old 5th Edition State Troop plastics were so wonderfully kitbashable with the Free Company kit was perfect for Mordheim

Henchmen: Swordsmen with light armour, helmets, shields, and swords

These are just standard State Troops, but the kettle helm on the one second from right is from the Free Company set

I'm not entirely sure why the one on the right has a water bottle and none of the others do, but they were made in the year 2002 or so

I really like the red and yellow scheme - it's very vibrant and stands out nicely against the brown bases

Henchmen: Warriors with spears and shields - someone's got to be cheap and easy to recruit

These two are converted using the 6th Edition plastic spearmen hands and spears with the State Troop bodies - a simple but effective kitbash!

These are a pair of cheap henchmen to help bulk up numbers and accompany the Youngbloods in battle

They look like they're patrolling through the ruins relatively unphased by the conditions

And finally, a Hired Sword: Ernie the Ogre, with club, sword, light armour, and helmet. Are those officially allowed options? No idea. He looks good though

With those done, my completed Mordheim warbands number has grown to four: Undead, Skaven, Cult of the Possessed, and the City Watch (Reiklanders). I still have a Marienburg warband and other random miniatures to do - there's a few that could be a Shadow Warrior band, and the start of an Orc and Goblin one too. Perhaps while I wait for that grey paint I might do some more Mordheim stuff...
