Last year I painted up some Wargames Atlantic Ogres as mercenary Imperial Ogres for my Grand Army of Wissenland. The box came with enough parts to make nine models, so I turned one into a Mordheim Ogre, put five together as the main mercenary unit for the Grand Army, and then - because I could - put the last three together as Leadbelchers (as they're known as in the Ogre Kingdoms) with small cannons as Ogre-sized "muskets". They fit into 6th Edition as Dogs of War Rare choices, or into The Old World as Imperial Ogres with light cannons. This morning they were undercoated, and, after another essentially full day of painting they are now done:
I copied their clothing quite closely from reasonably contemporary engravings |
You get a better idea of how colourful they are from the back |
Landsknecht types are always fun to paint because they're so bright and colourful, but it's important to try to tie things together by doing things like making sure all their leatherwork is the same colour, or, as here, the wooden furniture on their hand cannons is the same. The champion's morion helmet helps to make him stand out a bit as does the red bit on his feather.
With them done, I'm not totally sure where to go next. I have a bunch of Heresy Miniatures SF to do, so I might make a start on them. Or I might try and get the Tomb Kings' Casket of Souls sorted, although I confess to being a little intimidated by it! Or I might just rummage in the Pile of Opportunity and see what takes my fancy.
